Combine Settings
When running a combine with a Phoenix Reel there are some
changes that may aid harvest.
-
Better sample quality may be achieved with closer
chaffer and sieve settings due to uniform load on the entire threshing
systems.
-
Cylinder or rotor speed can be slower in most conditions than
normal to decrease grain damage.
-
“If you can feed it you can thresh it” used to be
the standard. With the Phoenix Reel it
will feed, so be sure you can thresh it.
-
Start early, the pods dry fast giving less shatter and less
damage.
-
When operating late gradually increase cylinder or rotor
speed.
-
Check grain sample regularly for unthreshed pods.
Header Adjustment
-
Run Phoenix Reel at walking speed with
ground travel. This requires least amount
of power to operate reel with less bat load, less shatter and better
visibility.
-
Fore and aft reel are no longer needed. Maximum crop pickup and best feed are built
into the cam at optimum fore and aft position.
-
Reel height at lowest set position is 3” - 4”
lower than with standard reel. But, it
will feed in higher positions better than standard reel due to cradling
action.
-
For reduced shatter run as reel high as possible in
conditions where it will allow.
-
Slow table auger with slowest sprockets available, this will
reduce shatter and keep auger from batting crop away.
-
Remove 1/3 to 1/2 of the center feed fingers from the table
auger to reduce shatter and for more aggressive crop feeding.
